Agrees with BBME's Parental Bill of Rights

Kurt was happy to interview with BBME and share his ideas with us.

Background:

Kurt draws from a diverse background of experiences, all of them focused on his local community. He has worked with several non-profits, served as a volunteer firefighter, led a church congregation, and organized and led four food pantries in underprivileged neighborhoods. He works with the youth of our city in many different capacities, and has also served as a chaplain for the Reno Police Department. He is homeschooling his daughter, but would like to see her return to the classroom.

Kurt is very in tune with the fact that our current Board of Trustees does not listen to the needs of the community it purportedly serves. He has been to countless WCSD board meetings and seen the board repeatedly ignore the wishes of the public.

Kurt believes in educating our children in a more traditional way by encouraging discipline and personal responsibility, rewarding success, and mitigating drug and behavior issues. He supports our district’s teachers, and will ensure that all teachers have what they need to provide every WCSD student with an excellent education.

Platform:

  • One of the most controversial issues in America today is Critical Race Theory. CRT is a catchall term that many today are using to describe a method of teaching that is obsessively focused on race, and what some feel is the oppressive nature of America’s history. WCSD is currently implementing CRT in middle and high schools, and proposing CRT curriculum additions for K-5 and it needs to be stopped.

  • He supports the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr., who famously stated, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

  • He believes parents, not the government,  are responsible until kids are 18.

  • He believes the board should listen to the public and follow the majority opinion.

  • He believes we should keep politics out of the schools

  • He believes there should be complete transparency with curriculum

  • He believes there are no consequences or punishment anymore.  Gave an example of trouble on buses with bad behavior from kids and bus drivers can’t do anything.

  • He would take a look at schools better than WCSD and research what is working for them and implement solutions to problems in WCSD

  • Kurt is an unabashed supporter of traditional Washoe County values,  like respect for ourselves, our families and communities, and cherishing our divinely inspired nation.

  • He agrees with the BBME Parent Bill of Rights
