A Positive For WCSD Teachers
Nevada Department of Education and DonorsChoose Partnership Benefits Thousands of Nevada Teachers.
On September 29, 2021, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) made a wonderful announcement that got teachers across our state very excited!
The NDE is offering eight million dollars of ESSER funds (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds) to help K-12 educators get classroom resources through DonorsChoose, a nonprofit crowdfunding website. Educators can submit DonorsChoose projects with values up to $800 for consideration. Projects can be any resource that will address the impact of interrupted student learning as a result of the pandemic.
Examples of some projects include: horseshoe shaped reading table, laptop computers, leveled book sets for guided reading, hands on math manipulatives such as base ten blocks, fraction kits, mini-clocks, counting coins/bills, flexible seating, headphones, individual student whiteboards, graphic novel sets, listening centers, chess boards, musical instruments, robot building sets, Lego Educational sets, PE equipment, IPADS, etc.
It is anticipated that this partnership will impact over 10,000 Nevada teachers! Thousands of Nevada teachers have created DonorsChoose projects and, as of today, many of those teacher have already received their materials!

"With the implementation of the Pupil-Centered Funding Plan and other key investments recently made in education, we are optimistic about the long-term impact on our classrooms Statewide. With this $8 million emergency funding allocation and innovative partnership with DonorsChoose, we are thrilled to be able to get resources directly and immediately to our educators and students.”
Already underpaid teachers are known to spend their own personal money on materials and school supplies for their students, so this announcement was an extremely generous and welcoming surprise to educators across our state! Thank you NDE for an early Christmas for thousands of Nevada educators!
