Carson City School District Makes Masks Optional for Students

For all those parents interested in the issue of requiring masks for children in schools, there have been some local changes. Carson City School District has decided to make masks optional for their students on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Lyon and Douglas School Districts also have a mask optional policy in place. In his message to Carson City parents, Superintendent Stokes states:
"The District’s decision comes after comparing the number of active cases in the Carson City School District from October, 2021 to January, 2022 with active cases in Douglas and Lyon County school districts, where masks have been optional for students. There was no discernible difference in the reduction of active cases during this period of time."
If you would like to see WCSD honor your rights as a parent to choose whether or not your child wears a mask, you can let your voices be heard by emailing those who can make the changes in our District, Superintendent McNeill and the Board of Trustees.
