Hot Agenda Items: 10/12/21 Upcoming Board Meeting

We want to help you better understand the upcoming issues the WCSD Board of Trustees will be discussing next week. Take a minute to review these agenda items so that you are prepared to submit a public comment or attend the meeting and make a public comment.


Consent Agenda

(public comment cannot be made on consent agenda items)

  • 2.01 Approval of an amendment to the Alternative Schedule for Peavine Elementary and Sparks High School.

  • 2.07 Although this item only addresses the requirement for the Superintendent to submit a report identifying the Student Behavior Manual as the progressive discipline plan, here is the Behavior Manual for anyone interested in reviewing it.

  • 2.08 Approval of rehiring retired teachers to fill positions for which there is a critical labor shortage. Snapshot of teacher shortages as of September 28, 2021.

  • 2.09 Approval of the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation of $300,000. When you look at the agenda material it does not attach the grant agreement where the donor gives instructions on how they want the funds used.

  • 3.01 If you want to hear more about the future Elementary School in the Rio Wrangler Area, it looks like the capital funding protection committee gave the go ahead and now the Board will listen to a presentation, have discussion and take the next step toward final approval on this project.

  • 3.02 The Board of Trustees Redistricting Map options are available for review and will be presented for discussion and possible approval.

  • 3.03 A presentation of the English Language Development Site Facilitator Model that will be rolled out within schools that have volunteered to be part of this program. The stated goal of this model “build the capacity for all teachers to utilize the best teaching strategies for language acquisition.”

  • 3.04 Presentation and discussion of Infinite Campus. As you may know, there have been questions raised by John Eppolito of Protect Nevada Children, on the safety of the extensive amount of student data contained on Infinite Campus.

  • 3.05 Come hear about the process for selecting the next Superintendent as the current Superintendent Kristen McNeill will be retiring on June 30, 2022.

  • 3.06 Status of the current COVID-19 mitigation measures in effect.


NOTICEABLY ABSENT FROM THE AGENDA ARE THE INVESTIGATION OF EX-TRUSTEE CALVERT (SOME ISSUES ARE WHEN DID THE BOARD KNOW SHE NO LONGER LIVED IN HER DISTRICT, SHOULD SHE REPAY HER SALARY AND COMPENSATION PACKAGES, AND VALIDITY OF THE DECISIONS SHE WAS PART OF AS AN INVALID TRUSTEE) AND THE CENSURE OF TRUSTEE CHURCH.
