Consent Agenda Items
2.13 Approval of Another Anonymous Gift in the Amount of $100,000.00
Just causes an eyebrow raise as this District with an approximate $1.3 billion budget and
another $100,000 fresh into the account through another anonymous gift cannot pay
enough to hire bus drivers and teachers.
Items for Presentation, Discussion, Information and/or Action
3.01 Presentation and Discussion on the Superintendent Search by The Bryan Group (TBG)(FOR INFORMATION AND DISCUSSION ONLY)
We must keep a close eye on this selection process. We need to push for a candidate
that prioritizes providing student transportation and an exemplary education as their first
order of business. This District needs a candidate who is not tied to, or played a part in,
the lowering of the bar direction this District has been headed in for many years.
3.02 Recognition of the school's Social Workers and their contribution to WCSD (FOR INFORMATION AND DISCUSSION ONLY)
This seems like it could be a great program funded by the state for almost 4.5 million
dollars, but again we have to wonder when the State of Nevada, the Nevada Department
of Education and the Board will prioritize transporting all children to school and
educating them to be college and/or career ready.
3.03 Approval and recommendations from the Zoning Advisory Committee to modify enrollment boundaries effective 2023-24 for DOUBLE DIAMOND
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, NICK POULAKIDAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, DONNER
SPRINGS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HIDDEN VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL,
EDWARD PINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, KENDYL DEPOALI MIDDLE SCHOOL, EARL
WOOSTER HIGH SCHOOL AND DAMONTE RANCH HIGH SCHOOL (FOR POSSIBLE
ACTION)
This link will take you to the Zoning Advisory Committee’s recommendation to the Board.
3.04 Approval and recommendations from the Zoning Advisory Committee to modify enrollment boundaries effective 2023-24 for the following schools in the South Meadows area because of the new middle school in the Rio Wrangler Area: BROWN
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, NICK POULAKIDAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, KENDYL
DEPOALI MIDDLE SCHOOL, MARCE HERZ MIDDLE SCHOOL, GALENA HIGH
SCHOOL, AND DAMONTE RANCH HIGH SCHOOL (FOR POSSIBLE ACTION)
This link will take you to the Zoning Advisory Committee’s recommendation to the Board.
3.04 Review of the COVID-19 MITIGATION MEASURES
The WCSD was required to submit a plan to the Washoe County Health District
(WCHD). The WCHD approved the draft plan on February 25, 2022, which includes
elements related to:
-Encouraging vaccinations
-Use of self-screening and continued use of layered mitigation strategies
-Testing
-Contact tracing and exclusions
-Face mask use
-Outbreak response
-Reporting
We believe as Governor Sisolak rescinded the mask mandate, the face mask use
referred to in the plan will continue to be by choice. Although we do note in the
presentation the Board will hear that the Washoe County COVID Risk Meter is indicating
a high risk as of March 04, 2022.
