WCSD School Board Report Card

We have been actively engaged in witnessing and reviewing the track record of the WCSD Board of Trustees, shaped by the NV legislature and the NV Department of Education.  It is clear there is a disconnect between what the students, teachers and support staff need and what they are actually receiving from our current board.

Below is a reporting of decisions and policies that concern us under the current WCSD Board of Trustees during the 2021-2022 school year.  We believe it is time for new leadership.

Want to learn more about how WCSD has become so hyper focused on race, white bias and social justice?  We did a deep dive investigation, and are shocked by what we found...

Graduating students who don't have a basic high school proficiency in math and ELA...in the latest  2020-2021 data, Washoe County School District’s (WCSD) current high school graduation rate is 85.11%, but WCSD has a high school math proficiency rate of 27.7% and an ELA rate of 48%.  We are graduating students without basic level high school education.  This is appalling.   Link to Scores.

Racially Divisive Benchmark Social Justice Supplemental Curriculum: Racially divisive opinion based curriculum that the community stakeholders rejected (by 80%). In response and instead of having dialogue with the community,  the Board’s stance is that they are mandated to create a social justice curriculum, they created a Superintendent’s Social Justice Task Force to keep the process of its creation outside of public view.  Resources: Curriculum, Rejection

A case study for CASEL's Transformative Social Emotional Learning (T-SEL), which is used in WCSD: which states “issues of racism derived largely from an over-emphasis on the accumulation of wealth within American culture’  and “wealth and Whiteness are conflated and uncritically accepted as indicators of success. This fosters White racial entitlement and dominance.” “White elites promulgated racialized…into a hierarchical economic system that exploited them, but also empowered them to oppress and further exploit people of color. ”  CASEL Link

Approving the controversial Restorative Justice Practice whose objective is to reduce noted significant disparities in suspension and expulsion rates across racial, socioeconomic, and special education lines by returning them to the classrooms at the cost of lost instructional time for other students and overall school safety.  Resource Link

No More "Boys" or "Girls" in Sex-ed:  SHARE Committee's Sexuality Health and Responsibility Education (SHARE): 4th and 5th grade proposed curriculum no longer refers to boys or girls but “body with a penis” and “body with a vulva.”  The Board has already approved grades 5th - 12th grade curriculums.  We suspect they will approve the latest 4th grade changes regardless of the parental feedback.  See Curriculum Here

School Bus Driver shortage resulting in suspension of bus routes district wide. The results were a 4 week per area loss of learning days for the most vulnerable students in WCSD during the Spring semester 2022. This shortage is expected to continue into the Fall of 2022. The Board is considering a proposal to hire an outside bus routing specialist company for $240,000, instead of investing in more drivers.  See more information Here

Support Staff shortage crisis:  Currently we have 59 vacancies for custodial services in WCSD. What is the problem? WCSD is paying anywhere from 5% - 26% less than comparable custodial positions in town.  WCSD has 86 vacancies for nutritional services. We are paying 5%-20%+ less than comparable positions.  There are 191 job special education aid/assistant vacancies as of April 8, 2022...why?  You guessed it  WCSD is not paying a competitive wage.  Who suffers in all these shortages? Teachers and students.  See more information Here

Divisive & Radicalized Equity and Diversity Teacher Training Mandate.   The Equity and Diversity Department facilitates 15 hours of Professional Learning, which includes racially divisive sections such as: White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack. White Supremacy Culture, Racism, White Privilege and White Supremacy are challenges that people of color neither created, nor should be expected to resolve.  See full teacher training manual HERE
